VesTopia launches in private beta, invitations left |
VesTopia, one of our portfolio companies (named until now Increditrade) , just launched their private beta, and we are very excited about it.
We have said much so far about it, on purpose. Their service actually lets you follow, in real-time, the real transactions and holdings within the personal portfolios of professional investors. All is done in a completely transparent mode, and while you get the pure transactions, you can also read about the strategies and opinions in the Investment Directors' blogs, and get alerts in RSS, SMS, email etc.
In the screenshot below you can see the real profile of one of the Investment Directors, Mike Gooson. You can see more pics and previews here
VesTopia are currently in a private, invitation mode only, but they still have some beta invitations left. So if you're interested, Click here or use invitation code LGI1ST in registration page
Many more exciting features are in the pipeline so stay tuned for the public beta and for great announcement VERY soon!

Great little service there...I do have a problem with feeling uncertain and finding trading ideas, so vestopia looked like an interesting solution.
Now...I don't know about "transparent". I'm looking at Dan Knight CFA and there's no explanation available about any of the positions he's been reported to have taken.
Also, it's gonna be weird to have the option to compare Dan's returns to S&P and Nasdaq (a feature which doesn't work just yet) as Dan (and other managers) are gonna be made to look bad (pretty much every time). To prevent the situation, cut the feature. Likewise, it'd be nice if the service reported the directors' respective portfolio betas instead of "volatility". Without the betas, what they're holding doesn't sense to me. Without betas, all I see is a bunch of meaningless ticker symbols, and I stop using the service. Ultimately, I'd use the service if I saw guys clocking alphas...but I'm not sure how that's gonna happen.
The last, sucessful retail financial services play I've seen is the Morten Lund (http://mortenlund.wordpress.com/about/) backed http://www.zecco.com....it's quite diffrent to vestopia.com...but I just don't have any other data points for suggesting how to overcome the problems vestopia has from the product point of view
I put up a thread at http://www.ibankingoasis.com/node/7363 to see what other traders think...
